PICO Question Examples
Models based on evidence employ a systematic approach to formulate a question, identify, assess, evaluate, and iterate as necessary. The PICO (T) framework consists of the following elements: Problem/Patient/Population, Intervention/Indicator, Comparison, Outcome, and (optionally) Time element or Type of Study.
Example of a PICO question:
Does the practice of hand washing among healthcare workers lead to a reduction in hospital-acquired infections?
The question above encompasses the following PICO elements:
P (Problem or Patient or Population): hospital-acquired infection
I (Intervention/Indicator): hand washing
C (Comparison): no hand washing; other solutions; masks
O (Outcome of interest): reduced infection
