How to write an essay on Higher Education in Nursing
The bachelor of nursing degree program is an advanced program in nursing that prepares nursing students for advanced roles in nursing. Most individuals joining the nursing profession prefer the bachelor’s program (Browne et al., 2018). Initially, nursing started as a diploma program before the degree program was introduced. The bachelor of nursing program has various benefits to the nurses, patients, and healthcare organizations. The degree program was introduced to meet the shifting trends and new challenges that continue to happen in the modern world. After completion of the degree program, the nurse will be able to accomplish various nursing obligations. The nurse will be able to improve and deliver healthcare to the patients and community. The nurse will also be able to utilize scientific and evidence-based practices in patient care. Degree nurses are good managers of information. They can collaborate and communicate with the patient and the multidisciplinary team to provide effective and efficient care to patients. The nurses are also trusted to meet the regulatory, legal, professional, and ethical standards that govern nursing practice. Finally, the degree nurses can provide holistic and culturally appropriate care to patients from diverse healthcare settings.
Role Of Martha Rogers In The Advancement Of The Nursing Profession
The theory of unitary human beings by Martha Rodgers views nursing as a science and an art. The purpose of nurses is to promote health and wellbeing for every individual (Meleis, 2021). The science of unitary human beings started as a synthesis of facts and ideas. From the science perspective of nursing, Rogers believed that nursing is a body of knowledge, and all the nursing interventions and practices were arrived at through logical analysis and scientific research. The art of nursing is the appropriate and creative utilization of science to improve lives of individuals. Its creative utilization of scientific knowledge is regarded to be the art of nursing practice. Rogers claimed that nursing was introduced to serve individuals and ensure safety in nursing practice depending on the amount and the nature of scientific nursing knowledge the nurse acquires from their education. The aspect of boosting the body of knowledge is the introduction of the associate degree program.
According to Rogers, to prepare nurses for professional practice, the nursing program needed to be reviewed. She proposed that the main focus of the curriculum in nursing education should be to transmit the body of knowledge, to ensure teaching and practice of therapeutic touch (Meleis, 2021). The emphasis of the curriculum should be to develop self-awareness skills in nurses. Additionally, there should be an emphasis on the use of laboratory study in various settings and the importance of media such as projectors and other technologies in nursing education. The ability of the nurses to expand their body of knowledge, develop self-awareness, and practice and expand their usage of therapeutic touch can only be improved with the advancement of knowledge. The preposition of Rogers led to the introduction of the associate degree program. In the degree program, nurses will be advance the scientific-based knowledge that will improve their decision making and the delivery of health care services.
In conclusion, Martha Rogers contributed significantly by introducing the questioning stance about the prevailing scientific models. These led to the modification of the nursing curriculum and the introduction of the associate degree program to boost nurses’ knowledge. Additionally, the stance also led to the introduction of scientific research in nursing and exploring various issues affecting nursing practice. She made nursing a richer and more diverse profession. She also improved the scope of nursing practice and the introduction of the associate degree program.
