TASK 2: DEVELOPING AN E-PORTFOLIO, ADVANCED PROFESSIONAL ROLES AND VALUES

REQUIREMENTS
The work you send in must be your own. Even if the source is cited correctly, no more than 30% of the submission as a whole and no more than 10% of any one source can be directly quoted or closely paraphrased. When you turn in your assignment, you will get a report on how original it is. You can use this as a guide.

TASK 2: DEVELOPING AN E-PORTFOLIO, ADVANCED PROFESSIONAL ROLES AND VALUES

You must use the rubric to guide how you make your submission, since it has detailed criteria that will be used to judge it. Each of the requirements below can be judged in more than one way. The titles of the rubric’s parts may have links to relevant parts of the course.

A. Fill in the blanks below using OneNote:

Note: Instructions on how to access and use your e-portfolio can be found in the “Knowledge Base Article,” which can be found in the “Web Links” section below.

1. Create a one-paragraph mission statement for your business that includes the following:

• A list of your career goals, aspirations, and how you want to move forward in your career.

• a summary of where you want to spend most of your time and energy in the job

a. Write a reflection on how your professional mission statement will guide you throughout your nursing career.

2. Complete a professional summary, which should be 3–4 pages long and include the following:

a. Explain how a certain piece of work or artifact in your e-portfolio shows who you are as a learner and a healthcare professional.

b. Talk about how one item in your e-portfolio shows one of your professional strengths.

c. Talk about the problems you ran into as your program went along.

i. Tell us how you got past these problems.

d. Tell how your classes helped you meet each of the nine goals of the nursing program.

e. Talk about how your career has changed since the start of your program.

B. In the section of your e-portfolio that you will call “Quality and Safety,” do the following:

1. Write a one-page reflection on what quality and safety mean to you in your professional life.

a. Talk about how the program helped you figure out who you are as a professional.

b. Find the things in your e-portfolio that back up what you said in your definition.

i. Explain how these objects back up the definition you gave in Part B1.

Note: The artifacts should be added to your e-portfolio in the appendix.

2. Talk about how the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) certificate will help you as a professional nurse in the future.

C. In the section of your e-portfolio that you will call “Evidence-Based Practice,” do the following:

1. Write a one-page reflection on what evidence-based practice means to you in your professional life.

a. Talk about how the program helped you figure out who you are as a professional.

b. Find the things in your e-portfolio that back up what you said in your definition.

i. Explain how these objects support the definition you gave in Part C1.

Note: The artifacts should be added to your e-portfolio in the appendix.

2. Do the following to help you think about what you know about evidence-based practice and applied nursing research (suggested length: 1 page):

a. Talk about how you can evaluate current primary research and use the ideas in your nursing practice, keeping in mind:

• How important and reliable the information is

• Differences between research and making things better (places and uses of each)

• Differences between first-hand and second-hand research and resources, as well as what each means for clinical practice

b. Explain how your experience in the program helped you achieve excellence in evidence-based practice.

D. In the section of your e-portfolio that you will call “Applied Leadership,” do the following:

1. Write a one-page reflection on what “applied leadership” means to you in your professional life.

a. Talk about how the program helped you figure out who you are as a professional.

b. Find the things in your e-portfolio that back up what you said in your definition.

i. Explain how these artifacts support the definition from part D1.

Note: The artifacts should be added to your e-portfolio in the appendix.

2. Do the following to help you think about what you know about leadership (suggested length: 1 page):

a. Discuss the importance of professional collaboration for effective nursing leadership.

E. In the section of your e-portfolio that you will call “Community and Population Health,” do the following:

1. Write a one-page reflection on what community and population health means to you in your professional life.

a. Talk about how the program helped you figure out who you are as a professional.

b. Find the things in your e-portfolio that back up what you said in your definition.

i. Explain how these artifacts support the definition from Part E1.

Note: The artifacts should be added to your e-portfolio in the appendix.

2. Do the following to sum up your Community and Population Health task (recommended length: one page):

a. Talk about what you learned from your nursing task in the community.

b. Talk about what you found out and how it led you to your community diagnosis.

c. Talk about how your original focus and diagnosis changed as you got to know your population better.

3. Talk about how the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) certificate will help you in your future job as a nurse.

F. Do the following to add an appendix to your e-portfolio:

1. Include all of the artifacts (certificates, documents, previous assignments, and other items) that show your best work and prove you know how to do all of the things listed in parts B, C, D, and E.

2. Include the “Nursing Conceptual Model” that is attached.

3. Provide an updated professional résumé.

Note: If you have a LinkedIn account, you can take a screenshot and include it with the rest of your documents.

4. Choose one of the following ways to give professional references:

• a professional reference questionnaire

• A full recommendation letter

• a list of four references from professionals

5. Include a copy of the certificate of completion you got from IHI.

6. Include a copy of the certificate of completion you got from AMNH.

G. Send in your e-portfolio in APA style and format, with citations and references where they belong in the text.

H. Show that you can communicate professionally through the content and format of your submission.
